Anime that needs a film adaptation

Recently, Hollywood has begun to turn to the trend of taking anime and adapting it into a live action movie.

Several are currently being planned, and it’s led me to think, which ones deserve the live action treatment too?

I left out ones that are already in production, such as My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, and Cowboy Bebop.

So, Let’s Begin!

10. Pokemon

The Pokemon Company struck gold with Detective Pikachu.

So a live-action Pokemon movie with Ash and the gang doesn’t seem that farfetched.

It would have to take someone who really knows the franchise.

9. Fullmetal Alchemist

Two brothers who are given the gift of alchemy are on a quest to find the Philosopher’s Stone in order to heal their broken bodies.

This plot feels like it would make a great action/sci-fi movie.

Fans appreciate the detail that went into crafting the world and characters.

8. Death Note

Thanks to a supernatural notebook, an average high schooler has the power to control who lives and who dies.

There was a live action movie based on the classic anime on Netflix, but it tanked.

7. Sailor Moon

This is one that has been adapted into live action several times but never to the big screen.

Set in real time Japan, Sailor Moon tells the story of five teenagers who are destined to protect Earth from the forces of evil.

6. Black Lagoon

Influenced by the filmmaking styles of Quentin Tarantino and John Woo, Black Lagoon tells the story of a group of pirates and mercenaries who smuggle shipments across Southeast Asia during the nineties.

5. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Jonathan Joestar AKA JoJo must stop his brother Dio from stealing his family’s fortune.

With the power of an ancient mask, Dio has the power to turn himself into a vampire.

This anime borrows from many genres. Such as comedy, action and horror.

This plot also makes me think of something Edgar Wright would do.

4. One Piece

A ragtag team of pirates is on the search for the fabled treasure of One Piece.

This Anime is currently getting a live action adaptation, which has fans mixed.

3. Sword Art Online

Hundreds of people are trapped inside a virtual reality game and must travel through various worlds in order to escape.

This anime is also getting a live action adaptation.

2. One Punch Man

I like superhero movies as much as the next guy, but most of them follow the same formula.

One Punch Man tells the story of a man who can destroy anything with one punch and because of this, he’s clinically depressed.

He searches for a worthy adversary but can’t find one.

  1. Dragonball Z

Dragonball fans deserve a good anime adaptation.

In 2009, Dragonball: Evolution hit theaters and disappointed fans everywhere.

It’s been considered the worst anime adaption ever and showed Hollywood how not to adapt an anime.

What do you think?

Which anime shows do you think deserve the live action treatment?

Let me know!
